from A Book of Poems on Beauty

Winner of the 2014 Gazing Grain Chapbook award chosen by Dawn Lundy Martin, from A Book of Poems on Beauty is a research-based project that produced poems, essay, and video. It originally was conceived of like Stephan Mallarme’s unbound Livre, a book about “everything”—thus the “from” as the first word of the title. This was a conceit used to address the fact that I had taken on such an unrealistic and hubristic topic. The work turned out, perhaps not unexpectedly, to be infused with the theme of gender. That short collection expanded into a full length book Sun Cycle.

“the hot energy of this language pulls us from everything we thought we knew about beauty and the feminine” Dawn Lundy Martin
